On Sunday, a new showcase for original music made in Singapore was launched at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Curated by Mike Spinks – who has been working with Hard Rock Cafe on an open mic series for 3 years now – the event featured FIVE emerging artists.

What was distinctive – the artists preferred a melodic pop-rock style – whether expressed through folk, soul-pop, blues-rock or even indie pop.

Whilst raw in songwriting, arrangements and performance, it was clear that the potential and promise was evident.

Even as the local music scene expands, what is needed is a wider range of focus beyond the indie-folk-pop and jazz-soul fusion so prevalent nowadays. In that light, these Original Music Nights at the Hard Rock Cafe might be a proverbial shot in the arm for what we call #THENEWROCKNROLL.
