LOU BARLOW

LOU BARLOW + MISSINGMEN = sentridoh III (Merge)

Indie rock legend Barlow has covered many bases in his career – the proto-slacker rock with Dinosaur Jr, the lofi indie of Sebadoh and the early anti-folk of the Folk Implosion – and usually with pleasing results.

On sentridoh III, his latest album, Barlow has elected to pay tribute to the psychedelic rock of the late 60s with processed vocals and noisy phased/feedback-drenched guitars which evoke the heady days of 13 Floor Elevators, the Electric Prunes, the Blue Magoos and the Amboy Dukes.

I mean, listen to tracks like Apologize, Caterpillar Girl, Losercore and Praise and tell me it does not make you nostalgic for those tripped-out days with their deliberately channeled freakbeat?

A wondrous rock history lesson.
