In celebration of the 50th anniversary of 1966 – a watershed for pop music – brand new label Team Mensch invited a wide array of current artists to do fresh renditions of songs from 1966 for Guilt By Association Volume 4.
A vital reminder of how timeless much of 60s pop music is still is and how that music remains a deep well of inspiration for likeminded modern artists.
“Summer In The City” – A faithful cover of the Lovin’ Spoonful’s #1 hit by Chris Collingwood and guest vocalist Abby Weems, of the band Potty Mouth.
“Paint It Black” – This nightmarish classic of the Rolling Stones by John Davis (The Lees of Memory/ex-Superdrag).
“When a Man Loves a Woman” – Percy Sledge’s soul standard reimagined by the inimitable Rachael Yamagata.
“Dead End Street” – Straightforward performance by Porter Block of one of Ray Davies most sardonic compositions.
If fans of the artists on view are turned on to these classic 60s pop gems, then it would have all been worth it!
