VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR – DO NOT DISTURB (ESOTERIC RECORDINGS)

Legendary prog-rockers return with their 13th studio album – their third since reinvention as a three-piece group a decade ago. This trio of Peter Hammill, Hugh Banten and Guy Evans have delivered an authentic VDGG album despite the personnel changes. Most of the songs are over six minutes long and consist of widescreen music palates throughout. Jazz, psychedelic folk, hard rock and avant-garde touches keep the music fresh and familiar for diehards and newbies alike.

CROCODILES – DREAMLESS (ZOO MUSIC)

Post-punk revivalists & dream-pop specialists Crocodiles heighten their Anglophile predilection with a new album that contains some of their exquisite material so far. The music on Dreamless focuses very much on the rhythm section – guitars do not figure quite as much as before – but this fact does lesson its impact one iota. It’s all in the melodies and the attitude. Brilliant. https://www.facebook.com/killcrocodiles

CATCH PRICHARD – ESKOTA (DENISE RECORDS)

This five-track EP contains glorious Americana that does not need too much elaboration. The opening “Eskota” is dreamy and earthy at the same time, with the rest of the EP in pretty much the same vein. Their is an atmospheric albeit gritty quality about songs like “Hometown” and “You Can Never Go Home Again” – Dylanesque mid tempo ballads that work on every level. http://www.catchprichard.com/

SAVOY MOTEL – S/T (WHAT’S YOUR RUPTURE RECORDS)

Guitar rock is high on Savoy Motel’s agenda as their debut eponymous album demonstrates. It’s not too difficult to discern the influences of glam rock, boogie, soul, power-pop, garage, punk & dance music in their scatter-brain music. Song-writing in general might be a lil spotty but it’s the 70s rock approach that will win over the true-blue pop-rock fans out there. https://savoymotel.com/
