ALBUM REVIEW: THE SHARP THINGS – EVERYBODYEVERYBODY

The Sharp Things

Background
The Sharp Things is an New York City-based chamber pop collective, led by singer/songwriter Perry Serpa (born 1965). Current members include Jim Santo, Aisha Cohen, Michelle Caputo, James Pertusi, and Andrea Dovalle. EverybodyEverybody is the final instalment of an album series that began in 2013.

Strengths
An ambitious song cycle, offering an unbroken stream of music and sound, songs and interstitial bits, from top to bottom. Retro-pop music that is excellently crafted.

Highlights
“Something Big”, “Hail to the Chief”, “Shine Shine Shine”, “There’s Been No One Since You”.

Sounds Like
Kevin Tihista, Eric Matthews, Richard Davies, Cardinal, The New Pornographers.

Bottom Line
It’s pop music the way the sixties pioneers intended it to be made – with artistic endeavour prized above all else.
