THE WALKING DEAD SEASON 1

Episode 5: Wildfire

Well, season 1 of The Walking Dead is all but over, with the finale to come. This particular episode I found to be extremely depressing as the aftermath of the zombie attack sinks in on the survivors. Amy is dead and Andrea mourned her, holding her throughout the night. As it turns out, Andrea was waiting for Amy to re-animate before saying goodbye and then blowing her brains out. Yikes!

More bad news awaits the survivors as Jim is revealed to have been bitten by a zombie, and at his own request, is left on the road to die. See what I mean, depressing. Tensions rise in the camp, and Rick and Shane (who still wants Lori for himself) have issues to sort out as well regarding the future plans of the survivors.

So they decide to take Rick’s advice and head out to CDC, which seems like a massive mistake when the zombies begin to surround them and the CDC appears deserted. Except that it’s not, as a lone scientist at the CDC attempts to create a cure for the zombie infection. The lone scientist chooses to ignore Rick’s cries of help, even as the other survivors (especially Shane and Lori) implore Rick to give up on his harebrain scheme, and then of course the doors open…

This episode contains major deviations from the plot in the comic book, which is a good thing, cos then it would not be an adaptation would it? To be honest, the lone scientist recalled LOST’s Desmond Hume but I am sure that that’s just a coincidence. In any case, it makes for an intriguing season finale.
