The Mandalorian is the well-received, critically acclaimed Star Wars Disney+ streaming TV series that has taken the world by storm! Even as last year’s first season whetted the appetite of Star Wars fans – young and old – for a return to the world that George Lucas created over forty years ago, nobody expected The Mandalorian Season 2 to well and truly up the ante like it did!
The Mandalorian S02E08 is the season 2 finale of this well-received Star Wars streaming TV drama series. It is no exaggeration to proclaim that success of The Mandalorian has ‘saved’ Star Wars fans and has redeemed the franchise in the eyes of many hardcore fans disillusioned with the way the sequel trilogy turned out.
The Mandalorian S02E07 turned out to be another half an hour episode. However, The Mandalorian S02E07 “The Believer” was a much stronger instalment of this Star Wars bounty hunter epic series as fans were given a deeper insight into the character of Migs Mayfield (Bill Burr) last seen in Season 1.
The Mandalorian S02E06 provided Star Wars fans a memorable moment with the proper return of fan-favourite Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison). Entitled “The Tragedy”, The Mandalorian S02E06 certainly telegraphed that the episode would be a difficult one for Mando (Pedro Pascal) as Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) set his plan in motion to capture Grogu.
The Mandalorian S02E05 is the episode that diehard Star Wars fans had been waiting for. Entitled “The Jedi”, The Mandalorian S02E05 delivered the ultimate fan-service – the live action debut of a beloved animated character, Ahsoka Tano! At the end of the previous episode, Bo-Katan had revealed the location of one of the last surviving Jedis – the city of Calodan on the forest planet of Corvus.
After the big revelations of the last episode, there were obviously great expectations for The Mandalorian S02E04. But alas, the poor condition of the Razor Crest necessitated yet another diversion from the quest as Mando and the Child re-visited Nevarro for needful repairs. Cue the reunion with Greef Karga (Carl Weathers), Cara Dune (Gina Carano) and even Mando’s former bounty Mythrol (Horatio Sanz), all from the first season.
The Mandalorian S02E03 is destined to be a fan-favourite episode of this popular Disney+ series. Entitled “The Heiress”, The Mandalorian S02E03 introduces the live-action version of Bo-Katan (played by Katee Sackhoff), from The Clone Wars animated series. Bo-Katan is of the Mandalorian Clan Kryze and plans to reclaim Mandolore from the fallen Empire.
It’s fair to say that The Mandalorian S02E02 was a huge disappointment. After the reveal of the return of a fan-favourite legacy character at the end of the last episode, The Mandalorian S02E02 “The Passenger” simply went nowhere, plot-wise.
The Mandalorian S02E01 marks the return of the popular Star Wars series from Disney+. Taking place five years after the events of Return of the Jedi, The Mandalorian is essentially a space western cum samurai tale, following the exploits of a lone bounty hunter in the outer reaches of the galaxy.
The Disney+ streamer The Mandalorian was a smash hit when it was released last year to introduce the new streaming platform. Many observers have credited the series for redeeming the Star Wars franchise altogether! Get your first look at The Mandalorian Season 2 trailer below.
As faithful readers would know, I effectively boycotted this seemingly pointless movie when it was released in cinemas, due to The Last Jedi‘s desecration of the Star Wars legacy. But to be fair, I decided to see for myself – so to speak – as the movie has just been released digitally.
Before the release of Star Wars (never “A New Hope”) in 1977, there had only been a couple of successful movie franchises viz. James Bond and Planet of the Apes.
Director Ron Howard has confirmed on Twitter that he will take over from the departed Phil Lord and Chris Miller to helm the Han Solo standalone movie.
The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the directors of the Star Wars standalone prequel of Han Solo – Phil Lord and Christopher Miller – have left the film over ‘creative differences’.
Has social media been taken over by Disney press-bots? It gets very distressing when twentysomethings declare the standalone Star Wars film, Rogue One as “the best Star Wars movie ever”!
When Disney paid big bucks for Lucasfilm, it was with a view to spinning the Star Wars franchise into a shared universe, very much like the hugely popular and successful Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Do we really need movies set in the Star Wars shared universe? Well, if you are Disney and desiring to recoup some of the $4 billion they paid George Lucas for the franchise, then definitely!
No familiar ‘legacy’ characters here though, which makes Rogue One: A Star Wars Story a bit of a risk. Not at all, of course, as the zombies will come out in force to have their brains eaten by more fan-service masturbation.
So much to say, too much to unload. Considering the sheer level of hype poured down on this movie, it’s fair to accept that it was never ever going to live up to the hype. I probably need to watch again to absorb all the nuances but basically, what I feel is that The Force Awakens is either a Star Wars reboot or a fan-made tribute or eye candy searching desperately for a story or perhaps all of the above.
The latest Star Wars sequel is a mere 3 days away from opening in Singapore and hordes of geeks are eagerlywaiting to see whether director JJ Abrams can return the series to its former glories, after the dismal critical reception of the prequels back in 1999 – 2005, despite the trilogy grossing a total of $2.5 billion at the box office.
One of the best parts of having a new Star Wars movie this year is – apart from the film itself – the creativity demonstrated by hardcore fans. Here’s a heartfelt tribute to the original trilogy set to the score on the latest The Force Awakens trailer by Medley Weaver – it is breathtaking and emotional to witness. Kudos!
The most anticipated movie of the year has released a new trailer. If I am understanding the implications of what is depicted in this trailer correctly, after the Battle of Endor and the Return of the Jedi, something happened to thwart the actual return of the Jedi because 30 years later, the very idea of the Force is now a myth. Isn’t this the premise of Star Wars: A New Hope? So unlike the numerous books that chronicled post-ROTJ events (which has now been rendered non-Canon by Disney), we are back to square one.
Once more, we have a young adult living on the desert planet looking up to the skies, we have a malevolent force wearing a helmet and we have the threat of the Death Star (see the poster below) – so Star Wars: The Force Awaken is in reality a REBOOT! Sigh. What an alarming and revolting development! Hopefully, I am wrong in my assessment of the trailer. Cuz, even though the visuals are amazing and awe-inspiring, if that is indeed the plot of the new Star Wars movie, then it is going to be a disappointment. Don’t fuck it up, JJ!
