Lewis Carroll’s classic literary work gets the quirky Tim Burton treatment with the upcoming Disney movie, Alice in Wonderland. Carroll’s story is best known for its lively, memorable characters viz. the Mad Hatter, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, the White Rabbit, the Mock Turtle etc.
Personally, I’ve always loved the Cheshire Cat and the incongrous visual idea of the smiling trickster – something that could not be trusted despite the appealing facade. Burton’s take on the character (see above) is to emphasize the “creepy” aspect of the concept – which brings to mind the notorious Batman villian, the Joker. Certainly, a movie to look forward to…
