ALBUM REVIEW: STEVE MASON – MEET THE HUMANS

Steve Mason

Steve Mason – formerly of 90s outfit The Beta Band – returns with his third solo album.

Meet the Humans is a collection of old-fashioned music making goodness i.e. fairly sophisticated melodies (by today’s pop standards) and thoughtful arrangements and instrumentation.

The recordings sound very organic & songs like “Alright”, “Another Day” and “Run Away” are orchestrated with lush instrumentation that recalls the classic pop-rock music of the late 60s and early 70s.

If only more young singer-songwriters would follow in the footsteps of the likes of Steve Mason, Richard Hawley and Field Music instead of the artistically challenged John Mayer – Damien Rice path. If only.

An invigorating set of songs that reminds us what immense potential pop-rock holds in its original artistic form (think: 60s/70s and 90s). Again, the likes of Steve Mason need to be promoted to the high heavens by lovers of true blue (classic) pop-rock if we are to keep our beloved music alive!
