Described by the composer himself as an eight-hour long cradle song, Sleep is probably one of the finest musical concepts of 2015. Fact is, this is a release that would only make sense now, cuz an eight-hour piece makes no sense commercially on CD or vinyl or cassette! But as a digital download? Absolutely. What is even more brilliant, is that if Sleep truly worked as intended, listeners would never be able to experience the bulk of it!
Ironically, this is an idea that the likes of Marcel Duchamp and John Cage would have had sleepless nights over. The audacity of it all! Musically, the work on Sleep takes it cues from ambient techno (Brian Eno), minimalism (Philip Glass) and romanticism (Gustav Mahler) to produce a seamless masterpiece that is a wonder to behold.
