MIAM! Distribution unveiled three new animated acquisitions at Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Le Havre on September 8, marking the Paris-based distributor’s continued expansion of its slate with projects championing distinctive creative voices and diverse representation.
The three projects—”Sevens,” a 13×22-minute kids’ series about a girl launching a female rugby team; “Queerstory,” a 20×6-minute young-adult documentary series exploring forgotten queer myths; and “Dad & Me,” a 52-minute coming-of-age special about a Russian girl adjusting to life in Paris—join MIAM! Distribution’s catalogue of 33 programs.

Alongside the acquisitions, MIAM! announced new partnerships with four independent French producers: Have a Nice Day Films, Les Astronautes, Hauteville Productions, and Girelle Production, reinforcing the distributor’s commitment to supporting indie creators.
Hanna Mouchez, CEO of MIAM! Distribution, said the company’s acquisition strategy is “driven by a desire to work with independent producers and creators who bring distinctive voices and fresh perspectives.” She added that the three projects explore “themes that are central to our editorial vision: identity and belonging, diversity and representation, and the confidence to find your own place in the world.”
The Projects and Their Creators
“Sevens” is inspired by the real-life journey of French international rugby player and co-creator Séraphine Okemba. The series follows Rose, a middle-school girl who launches a female rugby sports team at her school, building bonds of friendship and solidarity with her teammates. Okemba said rugby teaches “solidarity, mutual support and trust in yourself and others,” values the series aims to celebrate. The show is currently in development with France Télévisions, with an expected delivery by the end of 2028, and is co-directed by Guillaume Lorin, an award-winning director of the TV special “Vanille,” and Vinnie Ann Bose, director of the César-nominated short “Suliamani.”
“Queerstory” brings forgotten queer myths to the spotlight through a bold young-adult format that blends humor, documented historical sources, and expert commentary. The series restores queer tales—from the truth behind Thor’s hammer and the goddess Amaterasu to Princess Badoure from One Thousand and One Nights—to their rightful place in collective memory. Creator Iris Miské said the project is a response to global threats to LGBTQIA+ identities, “giving life to our queer ancestors, and arguments to fight bigotry.” The series will be delivered in May 2027 by Hauteville Productions and will premiere on Slash, France Télévisions’ digital platform for young adults.
“Dad & Me,” produced by Have a Nice Day Films and Les Astronautes, follows Alyona and her father Fiodor as they leave their Russian village to settle in Paris. On her first day at school, Alyona cannot understand French, but a rap competition brings her together with two classmates and helps her find her place between two cultures. Director Olesya Shchukina adapted her own childhood story, saying she wanted to capture “the experience and its complexity, so both kids and adults could relate.” The special is supported by French funds including Pictanovo, CICLIC, Région Sud, Procirep, France’s CNC National Film Board, and distributor Les Films du Préau, with a July 2027 delivery and premiere on France Télévisions.

MIAM! Distribution, founded in 2016 by Mouchez, is part of a Paris-based independent group that also includes MIAM! animation, dedicated to development and production, and MIAM! games, launched in June 2026. The group is known for titles including “Edmond and Lucy,” “The Tinies,” and “Goat Girl,” with a focus on artistic originality, technological innovation, and sustainable production models.
The announcements come during the 32nd edition of Unifrance Rendez-Vous, the world’s largest market dedicated to French audiovisual programs, held September 7-10 in Le Havre. The market brings together 135 buyers from approximately 40 countries to view more than 350 programs spanning fiction, animation, documentary, and live-action content. The event underscores France’s continued strength in animation and independent production, with distributors like MIAM! leveraging the platform to showcase partnerships with emerging and established indie producers.
