The Halloween edition of ‘SNL’ Weekend Update saw co-anchor Michael Che deliver a joke about Israel that made fellow anchor Colin Jost “jokingly grimace,” Variety reported after the Oct. 31 broadcast.
Variety’s recap says the segment aired as part of Saturday Night Live’s Halloween episode and that “later on during Weekend Update, Michael Che made a joke about Israel that made Jost jokingly grimace.”
The same Variety story notes the show “saw a cameo by Ben Marshall’s Pennywise” alongside other jokes and bits in the Halloween edition.
Variety described Weekend Update as including a series of topical jabs, including material targeting President Trump and his public remarks, and singled out the Israel joke as a moment that visibly unsettled co-anchor Jost.
That recap—headlined “‘SNL’ Weekend Update Finally Weighs in on Israel”—positioned the segment as notable because the sketch-comedy show “had largely been avoiding the topic of Israel, unlike their U.K. counterparts,” according to Variety’s summary and headline framing.
Variety’s article was published Nov. 1, 2026, and its reporting provides the episode details cited above, including the Halloween setting and the Pennywise cameo.
