SNL U.K.’ Weekend Update took aim at Shane Gillis on Saturday, with co-host Ania Magliano saying the show wasn’t “allowed” to repeat his line — the segment was headlined online as ‘SNL U.K.’ Weekend Update Takes Jab at Shane Gillis: ‘You Stupid F—ing C—’ and called out his SNL monologue.
The Weekend Update bit singled out Gillis after his hosting appearance on the U.S. show, with Variety reporting that Magliano turned her attention to him on air and delivered the line printed in the headline.
The sketch did more than name-check Gillis. Variety says the episode also cracked jokes about the U.S. president’s recently fired press secretary and ran an absurd thread suggesting King Charles might be Muslim, placing the Gillis jab amid broader political satire.
Online reaction amplified the moment: clips and social posts of Ania Magliano’s Weekend Update line circulated after the show, with multiple posts reproducing the show’s punchline and fans debating whether the jab crossed a line.
The original Keyword ‘SNL U.K.’ Weekend Update Takes Jab at Shane Gillis: ‘You Stupid F—ing C—’ framed much of the social coverage, and Variety’s recap supplied the specific details cited here.
Context: SNL U.K.’s Weekend Update is the British show’s topical news desk segment, and Variety’s write-up placed Magliano’s dig in the episode’s wider parade of political jokes rather than as an isolated attack.
That context matters because the line targeted Gillis’s earlier use of profanity on the U.S. broadcast; Variety reported the Weekend Update reference explicitly, which set off much of the online discussion the following morning.
Where this may go next is uncertain: social clips are spreading and reaction threads continue to trend, but Variety remains the primary outlet that published the direct transcript and described the surrounding jokes.
