Halle Berry’s daughter speaks out after domestic abuse allegations surface

Nahla Aubry, Halle Berry’s 18-year-old daughter, has stepped forward in court documents to counter abuse allegations made by the actress’s ex-husband, Olivier Martinez. The dispute—centered on claims that Berry physically harmed their 13-year-old son, Maceo—has already prompted a temporary restraining order and renewed legal wrangling over custody, making the next court rulings immediately consequential for both children.

In a sworn statement filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court, Nahla described the household she knows and firmly rejected any suggestion that Berry ever mistreated Maceo. She wrote that she has never observed her mother assault anyone, throw objects, or use force that would cause harm.

According to Nahla’s account, interactions between Berry and her younger brother are typically affectionate and noisy rather than violent: roughhousing, tickling and shared laughter, not aggression. She added that she has never seen Berry put a hand around Maceo’s neck, constrict his breathing or engage in behavior resembling the conduct alleged by Martinez.

Martinez obtained a domestic restraining order this month for himself and their son and has asked the court to change the couple’s 50-50 custody arrangement, seeking a “no contact” order against Berry. In his filing he says a phone conversation on September 26 prompted the action, with Maceo reportedly telling Martinez he had been “choked” during an argument and was too upset to want to spend time at his mother’s home.

Martinez also alleges prior incidents during mixed-martial-arts training in which Berry placed their son in chokeholds. Berry’s legal team disputes that narrative and has moved to block Martinez’s request, arguing the case is not about domestic violence but about Berry’s efforts to safeguard and support her son.

  • Who filed what: Olivier Martinez sought emergency custody changes and a restraining order; Halle Berry’s lawyers filed a motion opposing those requests.
  • Children involved: Nahla Aubry (18) and Maceo (13).
  • Core allegation: Martinez says Maceo reported being physically attacked and choked on Sept. 26.
  • Defense evidence: Nahla’s sworn statement portrays Berry as a present, involved parent and denies any violent behavior toward Maceo.
  • Current status: Temporary restraining order issued; custody dispute remains before the court.

Nahla’s letter also paints a picture of a parent who balances firm expectations with emotional support. She described Berry attending her son’s games, driving him to practices and advocating for his education and health care—actions she said demonstrate consistent involvement rather than neglect or abuse.

While the documents in court present sharply conflicting narratives, the immediate practical effects are concrete: the restraining order alters daily arrangements and the parties are now engaged in litigation that could reshape custody and visitation. The case also risks long-term emotional fallout for both children, who are minors navigating a highly public dispute.

Legal experts say the court will weigh witness testimony, written declarations and any other relevant evidence before making further rulings. For now, both sides are presenting sworn statements to support their positions, and the Los Angeles Superior Court will determine whether the temporary orders remain or are modified.

This matter remains active in court and observers should expect additional filings and possible hearings as the case proceeds.
