After a high-profile trailer landed this week, actor Anthony Ippolito has joined Creative Artists Agency, a move that comes as his new film, I Play Rocky, gathers early festival momentum. The timing matters: the project arrives as the industry marks the 50th anniversary of the original Rocky, and the film is already generating awards-season conversation.
The drama reconstructs the unlikely rise of Sylvester Stallone and the chaotic period when he clung to his script while struggling financially. In the film, Ippolito portrays the young Stallone who, according to the story, once sold his dog Butkus to make ends meet — then negotiated to buy the dog back as the backer relented to Stallone starring as Rocky Balboa.
What the deal and the film signal
Signing with CAA positions Ippolito for broader industry access now that he’s moving into leading-feature territory. This is his first top-billed role in a theatrical release; the film’s promotional push and the trailer’s visibility are likely to open doors at studios, festivals and awards screenings.
Ippolito is already known for a memorable turn as Al Pacino opposite Miles Teller in the series The Offer, and he has credits on Netflix projects such as Grand Army and Purple Hearts. His earliest screen work included playing a young version of an Adam Sandler character in Pixels.
Festival path and release plan
Producers have lined up a fall festival run beginning in September with the Toronto Film Festival, a traditional launching pad for films seeking critical attention. The studio — Amazon MGM Studios — has set a staggered theatrical rollout: a limited release on November 13 followed by a nationwide opening on November 20.
- Film: I Play Rocky — dramatizes early Stallone struggles
- Lead actor: Anthony Ippolito (plays young Sylvester Stallone)
- Agency: CAA (new representation for Ippolito)
- Festival debut: Toronto Film Festival, September
- Theatrical dates: Limited on November 13; wide on November 20
- Studio: Amazon MGM Studios
- Notable background: Original Rocky won Best Picture amid a field that included All the President’s Men, Network and Taxi Driver
Early reactions to the trailer have amplified interest in both the film and its lead. Industry observers will be watching how festival screenings translate into critical reviews and awards contention as the release window approaches.
Off-camera, Ippolito’s representation now includes Untitled, the Lede Company and law firm Lichter, Grossman, Nichols, alongside his new CAA arrangement. With festival appearances imminent, the next few months will be decisive for how the project and the actor are positioned going into awards season.
