Despite recent printing setbacks that pushed Amazing Spider-Man #1000 back a fortnight, participating independent stores will still be able to sell a special variant during Local Comic Shop Day — four days before the issue’s revised wide release. That early window matters for collectors and small retailers who rely on exclusive products and event traffic to drive sales.
Earlier this month publishers announced a scheduling slip that moved the issue from September 16 to September 30 because of production delays. Many observers assumed the Local Comic Shop Day (LCSD) variant — scheduled for September 26 — would be delayed alongside the main print runs. ComicsPRO-member shops, however, have confirmed they will receive the Skan LCSD cover in time for the event, allowing those stores to put that edition on sale on the 26th while the rest of the printings and the digital edition arrive on the 30th.
The distribution approach also includes a separate ComicsPRO-exclusive spot-color variant delivered directly to the organization’s members rather than through traditional distributor channels. For independent retailers the decision restores a rare early selling window and reinforces LCSD’s role as a flagship day for exclusive products and community events.

For collectors the gap creates a short-lived scarcity: the LCSD Skan cover will be available only at participating local shops for several days before becoming more widely available. For neighborhood comic stores, the exclusive helps drive foot traffic and gives them a headline item for promotions, signings and in-store celebrations tied to Local Comic Shop Day.

The issue is a giant-size anniversary special built around a lead chapter by Joe Kelly with art by Pepe Larraz that aims both to cap their current storyline and to launch the next phase of their run. Beyond the centerpiece, the release is an anthology of milestone short stories from a wide range of creators — established Spider-Man talent and newer contributors alike, including a noted screenwriter making his Marvel comics debut.
