‘SNL U.K.’ Weekend Update tackled allegations about Meghan Markle’s father on the show’s recent episode, mentioning the controversy alongside jokes about James Bond auditions and a potential ‘Glee’ reboot.
The Weekend Update segment, hosted by Paddy Young, referenced “allegations” involving Meghan Markle’s father while moving through a series of topical gags, according to coverage of the episode.
Reporters note the sketch did not dwell on the subject but placed the line about Markle’s family amid quick-fire jokes about film casting and TV revivals, a typical Weekend Update approach to mixing royal news and entertainment items.
Variety’s recap of the episode lists the three distinct bits — the Meghan Markle father mention, jokes about who might audition to play James Bond, and quips about a ‘Glee’ reboot — and frames them as part of the show’s willingness to take on controversial headlines.
Commentary around the sketch emphasized the tight, headline-driven rhythm of Weekend Update, where short references to current controversies are used for quick laughs rather than extended sketches.
For readers tracking SNL U.K.’s coverage of royals and pop culture, the episode continues a season trend of mixing British and American celebrity news in the show’s satirical roundups.
