The Japanese outfit is the leading pan-Asian independent music company and has recently launched operations in Singapore, whilst simultaneously beginning a partnership locally with Sony Music in Singapore and Malaysia. Hostess Label Manager Asia Nikki Mahmood-Chee had this to say about the announcement – “I’m thrilled to be part of the Hostess team after being a fan for such a long time, and can’t wait to get stuck in the process of introducing as well as connecting music fans to our artists and their music!”
What is intriguing to me is that besides the usual label and artist distribution, there is also the distinct possibility of the unique live series Hostess Club Weekender making its way to our shores as well, perhaps in 2014. The event is a regular festival of independent bands and has in the past included the likes of Vampire Weekend, Dirty Projectors, Travis, Bloc Party, Hot Chip, Spiritualized, Dinosaur Jr, Toro Y Moi, Youth Lagoon, Anna Calvi, Deap Valley, Villagers, Fidlar and Perfume Genius.
Fingers crossed that we get to see more indie bands coming our way in the years ahead with Hostess!
