Earl Sweatshirt and MIKE drop surprise album with Surf Gang

Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE and the Surf Gang collective have turned years of collaboration into a formal release: a double album titled Pompeii // Utility arrives April 3 through 10k, Tan Cressida and Surf Gang Records. The sprawling 33-track set — accompanied by a video for the dual single “Minty // Earth” — arrives with a companion tour that will take the group across North America and into Europe this summer.

The record brings together long-time associates Harrison, evilgiane and Eera (the core of Surf Gang) with rappers who have frequently crossed paths on stage and in the studio. The project lands after strong solo years for its principals: MIKE and Earl each released well-received solo projects in 2025, and Surf Gang contributed a December collaboration with British MC Jawnino.

The release matters now because it consolidates several influential voices in alternative hip-hop into one expansive statement, and because the group will be performing much of this material live during a high-profile run of dates beginning in June. Fans should expect an album-length set and a range of guest appearances drawn from the record’s credits.

Early reactions to the singles and the sheer size of the tracklist suggest the release is intended as both a summation of the artists’ shared history and a platform for wider collaboration. Given the artists’ reputation for shifting styles and dense, introspective lyrics, listeners can expect a mix of concise tracks and more sprawling, atmospheric pieces.

With Pompeii // Utility arriving in April and a long tour to follow, this release will likely be a focal point in the alternative rap landscape through the summer festival season and beyond.
