Brass Roots Fest brings free music to Bug Light Park on September 13, offering live performances, visual art, food trucks, and family-friendly activities from noon to 7 p.m. The one-day festival, presented by Brass Roots Productions, celebrates creativity and community against one of South Portland’s most iconic waterfront backdrops.
The festival emerges from more than a decade of vision and planning by Brass Roots Productions, a community arts organization dedicated to preserving, presenting, and exploring diverse musical traditions through performance, education, and cultural engagement. Months of collaboration with South Portland city officials have established a partnership focused on expanding public access to the arts.
The event has received enthusiastic support from South Portland’s mayor and city leadership, who share a goal of developing Brass Roots Fest into an annual tradition. While this inaugural festival is being independently funded and organized by Brass Roots Productions, it reflects a deep commitment to public arts programming with plans to expand in 2027 to include music, dance, sculpture, theater, and performance art.
Brass Roots Productions invites community members, visitors, donors, and sponsors to help shape the event as it grows into an annual celebration that strengthens community connections and showcases the creative spirit of South Portland. The festival takes place at Bug Light Park, located at 2 Buglight Road in South Portland, with free admission for all attendees.
