Cineflix Rights boards Nordic Blue crime ‘Hildur’ as filming starts in Iceland

London-based Cineflix Rights has boarded worldwide distribution for the Nordic blue crime series Hildur as filming starts in Iceland, Cineflix confirmed while the show — adapted from Satu Rämö’s novels — shoots in the Westfjords.

The company announced the move in a 2025 press release noting production has begun in Iceland on the six-part English/Scandinavian drama, which is co-produced by Finland’s Take Two Studios and Iceland’s Sagafilm and financed by IPR.VC.

Variety reported Cineflix Rights has closed a raft of international sales at Mipcom, including rights to Canal+ in France and Australia’s SBS, with additional deals for NPO in the Netherlands, RTV in Slovenia and LTV in Latvia.

The drama stars Ebba Katrín Finnsdóttir as detective Hildur and was adapted by head writer Matti Laine with Icelandic co-scribe Margret Örnolfsdottir; Cineuropa and the Cineflix release list the director as Tinna Hrafnsdóttir and the production as aiming for a winter premiere in Iceland and Finland.

The series is based on Rämö’s bestselling trilogy; Variety reports more than 2 million copies have sold across some 30 territories, while Cineuropa and Cineflix detail the books’ wide European publication and cross-border appeal.

Take Two Studios and Sagafilm lead the co-production, with executive producers and sales executives named by Cineflix involved in brokering the multi-territory agreements; the Cineflix release describes the show as “Nordic Blue,” blending crime with themes of family and mysticism.

Why it matters: the deal highlights continuing global demand for Nordic-format dramas and strengthens Cineflix Rights’ international slate ahead of festival and market rollouts this season.
