Joseph Duggar’s booking photograph was made public after his arrest Wednesday on allegations of child sexual abuse tied to a 2020 family vacation, authorities said. The development prompted an extradition request and a scheduled court appearance set for March 20, raising new legal scrutiny for the former reality-TV cast member.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas posted Duggar’s mugshot hours after he was booked on two felony counts: one for lewd and lascivious molestation of a child younger than 12, and another for lewd and lascivious behavior by an adult. The Bay County (Florida) Sheriff’s Office is leading the criminal investigation.
Allegations from a 2020 trip
According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, investigators say the alleged misconduct occurred while Duggar was vacationing with a family in Panama City Beach in 2020. The victim is described as a 9-year-old girl.
Investigators say the child was asked to sit on Duggar’s lap and later sit beside him on a couch; authorities allege Duggar then covered them with a blanket and engaged in inappropriate touching. A forensic interview with the child led detectives to pursue the case, the sheriff’s office said.
Officials also say the victim reported that Duggar apologized and the behavior stopped after that apology. The release states the victim’s father confronted Duggar at the time, and that Duggar “allegedly admitted his actions” to the father and to detectives in Tontitown, Arkansas.
What happens next: Duggar is being held in Arkansas pending transfer to Bay County. Jail records list a court date of March 20 for his first appearance after extradition.
- Charges: Lewd and lascivious molestation (victim under 12); lewd and lascivious behavior by a person 18 or older

- Victim: Reported to be 9 years old
- Current custody: Held in Washington County, Arkansas, awaiting extradition

Duggar, 31, is a former participant on the TLC franchise that included 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On. He married his wife, Kendra, in 2017; the couple has four children — two sons and two daughters.
The arrest also comes in the shadow of family legal troubles: Joseph’s older brother, Josh Duggar, was convicted in 2022 on federal charges related to child sexual abuse material and received a prison sentence of more than 12 years. Josh had previously faced separate accusations of sexually abusing multiple minors, including relatives.
The Bay County Sheriff’s Office provided the details of the investigation; criminal charges are allegations and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. The case will proceed through Florida’s legal process once extradition is complete.
