If We Build it, They Will Come

Is it impossible for Singapore musicians to build a fan base in their own home town? Uh-huh, one of those topics about which the local indie music hipsters can argue about till the proverbial cows come home. Frankly, I am tired of talking about it and so this Saturday, I take a small step towards trying to build a fan base for local indie music with SING A NEW SONG, an afternoon of original acoustic music from six talented Singapore acts and yours truly!

What I hope to accomplish with SING A NEW SONG? Well, I wanted to showcase a couple of artists from the KAMCO Music roster (natch!) viz. Maricelle Wong and Lydia Low but also felt the need to highlight singer-songwriters that I’ve admired for some time now like Celina Foo and Victoria Ho. Finally, I took a chance on acts that are fresh to our scene but demonstrate tremendous potential and needed the platform like Tall Mountains and The Sam Willows.

Personally, I believe that this line-up is fairly unique and exciting and most of all, reflects all the best of what I believe is wonderful about our local music scene. Hopefully, it will be the beginning of a series of curated events by yours truly to provide my own personal stamp on the local music scene. I write not for your support per se but I want you to come down with a genuine desire to listen to what our young singer-songwriters have to offer…

… in addition, I will open the ‘party’ with a piano set which will most likely be my last solo performance for the rest of this year. Thanking you all in advance. RSVP on Facebook.

… still there’s more…
