BANDCAMP DISCOVERY | THE NEW ROCK N ROLL : CAPTAIN KILL – BORN IN THE HEAVY EP

Blues-rock still resonates, as Norway’s Captain Kill demonstrates on this visceral EP.

There is something so comfortable and yet exciting about the manner in which this power trio (viz. Daniel Odda: Bass and vocals, Bjørn Arne F. Karlsen: Drums and vocals, Reidar Håndstad: Guitar) belts out dynamic riffs and chord structures into the ether.

It really does sound like the guys know exactly what they are doing and this is absolutely part of the appeal – a deliberate mining of late 60s psych-blues that is deeply influenced by the likes of Blue Cheer, Spirit, Quicksilver Messenger Service and Atomic Rooster.

Tracks like the title track, “Far” and “Monsters” also demonstrate Captain Kill’s way with a memorable tune and that it’s not all a rock slam for its own sake – the problem with many extreme metal sub-genres.
