Ephemera: Tribeca queer romance lands worldwide sales deal with Cappu Films

Hong Kong sales agent Cappu Films has taken on worldwide sales for Shan Jiang’s queer romance Ephemera, which premiered in the U.S. Narrative Competition at the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival, the film’s market announcement confirms.

Cappu Films announced it is representing Ephemera for international buyers and is shopping the title at the Busan International Film Festival’s Asian Contents & Film Market, Variety reported, quoting Cappu’s Janice Woo and the film’s director.

Ephemera, written and directed by Shan Jiang, follows two young women in post-pandemic Shanghai who spend a single night together as one prepares to move to Los Angeles. The Tribeca festival page lists the film as an 82-minute U.S. Narrative Competition selection and credits Yvonne Shuyu Zhang and Shu-Yi in the lead roles.

Variety’s exclusive reports that ArtChais Technology Co., Ltd. brokered the connection between the filmmakers and Cappu, and that Janice Woo said Cappu looks forward to “introducing the film to buyers in Busan and helping it find audiences around the world.” The outlet adds that Cappu’s mandate covers all territories while individual rights will be confirmed per territory.

Shan Jiang is credited on the Tribeca listing as writer, director and a producer on Ephemera; the festival notes the film’s language mix is English and Mandarin with English subtitles. Tribeca’s program copy describes Ephemera as a tender, breezy queer love story set in the former French Concession in Shanghai.

The deal is part of Cappu’s Busan slate this year, which Variety says also includes other titles the company is presenting to buyers. Cappu told buyers at the market that they are in active distribution conversations for Ephemera, the company said in the report.

Producers on Ephemera include Shan Jiang, Yinx Zhou and Sol Ye, with Jane Zheng and Alex Steyermark listed as executive producers in Tribeca’s credits. Variety’s piece also notes Cappu is handling Ephemera alongside several other festival titles it brought to Busan.

For readers tracking international deals, this marks another festival-sales pairing in 2026 where a festival-premiered title has been attached to a Hong Kong-based international sales agent ahead of regional market activity — a pattern visible at both Tribeca and Busan this fall.
