Label 4AD signs enigmatic @ for new album Autosmile

Philadelphia psych-folk duo @ (pronounced “at”) have joined the storied British label 4AD and announced a new album, signaling a step up in profile for the pair. Their sophomore LP, Autosmile, arrives October 16 and is led by a sparse, seven-minute title track released today with a pared-back performance video.

A bigger platform

The group — singer-songwriter Victoria Rose and multi-instrumentalist Stone Filipczak — first self-released their debut, Mind Palace Music, in 2021. That record was later reissued, and last year the duo followed with an EP that continued to build their underground audience.

Signing with 4AD gives @ access to wider distribution and press channels, and the label’s roster history suggests the pair could reach listeners beyond the psych-folk niche. For fans and new listeners alike, the move raises expectations around production scale and touring support.

The lead single: an unusual choice

The newly shared title track is deliberately restrained: an elliptical, acoustic ballad that runs about seven minutes and centers on voice and intimate instrumentation. Releasing such an extended, minimal piece as a lead single is a risky but telling choice — it foregrounds the duo’s songwriting and slow-building dynamics rather than a radio-ready hook.

The band has accompanied the audio with a stripped-down performance video, underscoring the record’s organic aesthetic and offering a clear sense of how these songs translate live.

Why this matters now

With the album out in October and a North American tour scheduled for the fall before a string of European headlining dates in November, the timing positions @ to expand their following while the music press and festival bookings are still setting fall and winter lineups. The 4AD partnership could also mean the album reaches curated playlists and broader editorial coverage.

Tour plans: fall support slots and a European run

This autumn @ will appear as support on two North American tours before launching their own headline dates overseas. Below are selected dates from their schedule.

  • Fall (North America): Supporting YHWH Nailgun and This is Lorelei on several October dates, including shows in Seattle, Portland, San Diego and Los Angeles.
  • Headline (Europe, November): A run of dates across the UK and mainland Europe, with stops in Paris, Glasgow, London, Amsterdam, Berlin and Brussels.

Tour highlights (selected):

  • 10-01 — Seattle, WA — Chop Suey
  • 10-06 — San Diego, CA — Soda Bar

The new record and tour mark a pivot point: a band known for intimate, homegrown recordings is taking that sound onto larger stages with the backing of a historic indie label. For listeners tracking breakthrough acts in the psych-folk and indie scenes, Autosmile is now one to watch.
