Your Honor is an American crime drama television series starring Bryan Cranston, adapted from the Israeli TV series Kvodo. Originally intended to be a mini-series, somehow the series was given a second season, which we understand will be its final one as well. All of which is not all that surprising as we hinted at this possibility in our review of the finale.
S P O I L E R S
That said, Your Honor Season 2 Ep 1 is a very disorienting one as it opens with main character Judge Desianto (Cranston) in jail, with dishevelled long hair and a full beard. We are shown a disturbing sequence in which Desianto is force fed food supplements in order to stave off starvation. Clearly, after the death of his son ate the end of last season, Desianto has given up on life.
Then, things get more confusing as another timeline is opened to us, as a flashback to the events that took place after the death of Adam Desianto are depicted. Basically, in order to stop a gang war between the Baxters and Desire, it is made to appear that Adam’s killer was shot to death, even as the real murderer escapes by bus. All rather frustrating but presumably this turn of events is intended to provide plot points down the line this season.
But let’s get to the actual premise that will occupy us in this unlikely second season. Desianto is blackmailed by the district attorney to help the state to gather incriminating evidence against the Baxter crime family. Thus, Desianto’s motivation this season seems to be to help his friend Charlie stay out of prison for helping him cover up Adam’s crime in the first season. Not a particularly strong one it must be said and we fear for the legitimacy of this season’s narrative for that reason.
Your Honor Season 2 Ep 1 is a flimsy opener for this unexpected second season. Wait and see…
… still there’s more …
