YOUR HONOR PART 8 (REVIEW)

Your Honor Part 8

Your Honor Part 8 is the latest instalment of a ten-part drama miniseries set in New Orleans. The series is adapted from the Israeli TV series Kvodo. The premise of Your Honor concerns Michael Desiato (Bryan Cranston), a judge who has to take drastic action in order to safeguard his son Adam, after the latter kills the scion of a mob boss in a hit-and-run accident.

With only two more episodes coming after this, it does seem that Your Honor is heading for a dead end. Your Honor Part 8 finds the Judge now presiding over the murder trial of Carlo Baxter as planned, after the machinations of Part 7. That achieved, the Judge has to balance on a knife’s edge – appearing to be serving justice while attending to the needs of the Baxter family i.e. getting Carlo acquitted by the jury.

The key to an engaging story is to make your main character suffering and the Judge certainly is. Behind the scenes, he is working hard to ensure that the trial works out in favour of the Baxters while all the while maintaining a sense of normalcy so that ultimately it is not obvious that something is not quite right here.

Interesting aside is how the COVID-19 virus creeps into the storyline, providing the Judge the perfect excuse for keeping the public and the media out of his courtroom and facilitating his manipulation against justice for his (and the Baxters’) own ends. That was particularly jarring as most series set in contemporary times have tended to ignore the global pandemic thus far.

Not much else is going on in Your Honor Part 8 that deserves mention, although Adam’s complications with new romance and college posting seems to be an unwanted story distraction at this point. Hopefully this development will serve the plot for the remainder of the series. Will there be a twist in the tail? Hope so.
