YELLOWJACKETS SEASON 2 EP 4: SAME OLD SCENE

Yellowjackets Season 2 Ep 4

Yellowjackets Season 2 Ep 4 is the 14th chapter of a survival horror drama television series created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson. The series cross-hatches several genres successfully by combining influences from popular TV series like Lost, True Detective and every teenage coming-of-age drama out there.

The premise of Yellowjackets is as follows – 25 years ago, a high school girls soccer team were stranded for 18 months in the Canadian wilderness after a plane crash. The trauma of that experience lives on with them to the present day as the darkness becomes part of their everyday lives. Thus, the narrative of the series is divided between these two eras.

Entitled “Old Wounds”, Yellowjackets Season 2 Ep 4 strikes us as yet another pause in the proceedings similar to Ep 3. Which is somewhat bewildering. Strictly speaking, there is not a sense that the story has been moved forward, both in the present day and in the flashbacks. This is probably due to the narrative having to cover so many disparate characters, similar to the problem Game of Thrones encountered in its season 6.

Considering the chapter title, Yellowjackets Season 2 Ep 4 only really deals with two characters with significant trauma from the past viz. Lottie and Tai. Lottie continues to hallucinate and Tai is losing time, almost something like day-walking. This is something both experienced in the wilderness and clearly their mental health is suspect as they were touched by the darkness of the past.

As far as Shauna and Misty are concerned their separate sub-plots are incredibly boring and seemed to be going nowhere. There’s also no discernible character development to speak of, so what was the point? In any case, the ending reveals that Van is still alive as Tai seeks her out to assist her in resolving her current issues. Sad to say but the Lost similarities are beginning to surface and not in a good way…
