Y The Last Man S01E08 Review

Y The Last Man S01E08 is the eighth episode of the first season of the dystopian post-apocalyptic FX TV drama series streaming on Disney+ based on the DC Comics series created by Brian K Vaughn and Pia Guerra. The premise of Y The Last Man postulates a dystopian future where all men are wiped out save for one.

Entitled “Ready. Aim. Fire.”, Y The Last Man S01E08 goes all in to present to us the true origins of Roxanne (Missi Pyle), the leader of the so-called Daughters of the Amazons and the dark secrets she is hiding. The entire episode focuses on residents of the PriceMAX to the exclusion of the other sub-plots. Presumably, the final two episodes of this season will tie in the other two sub-plots? Hopefully.

Y The Last Man S01E08 Review

Y The Last Man S01E08 demonstrates exactly why this series is struggling to be seen – it is too similar to The Walking Dead – we, the audience have seen this all before. The only difference is that the cult leader this time is a woman and everybody else is a woman too! Other than that, this series pales in comparison as least to the early seasons of The Walking Dead.

Y The Last Man S01E08 Review

Sure, the desperate machinations of Nora Brady (Marin Ireland) spices things up nicely but one wonders why Roxanne does not simply kill her when the former becomes a dangerous threat? Especially when the flashbacks depict Roxanne as a psychotic killer, who murders at the drop of a hat! A serious plot flaw that is hard to ignore.

Y The Last Man S01E08 Review

But seriously, is Roxanne really that interesting a character that we needed this entire instalment to detail her background and personality makeup? In that respect, Y The Last Man S01E08 really came across like an episode of LOST and of course, The Walking Dead. Too close for comfort. Disappointing.
