Y The Last Man S01E06 Review

Y The Last Man S01E06 is the sixth episode of the first season of the dystopian post-apocalyptic FX TV drama series streaming on Disney+ based on the DC Comics series created by Brian K Vaughn and Pia Guerra. The premise of Y The Last Man postulates a dystopian future where all men are wiped out save for one.

Entitled “Weird Al is Dead”, Y The Last Man S01E06 sharply delineates three main sub-plots even as the first season moves into its second half. First, presumably the one that drives the dramatic need of the first season involves Yorick, our titular character, Agent 355 and Doctor Mann as they figure out how to get to a San Francisco lab so that Mann can study Yorick’s DNA to work out a solution to the world’s current predicament.

Second, at the White House, former first daughter is conspiring with ex-VP Regina Oliver to wrest power away from President Jennifer Brown. The first sub-plot of course is tied up with this sub-plot of course, as the President needs to keep the survival of Yorick, her son, a secret. Third, Nora Brady and Sam Jordan are feeling uneasy about their residence with the Amazons (led by Roxanne) while Hero is gradually being seduced by the Amazon’s man-hating agenda.

Y The Last Man S01E06 Review

Surprisingly, it is the main sub-plot that seems rudderless as Agent 355’s erratic behaviour is unexplained and both Yorick and Doctor Mann are equally indecisive and unable to resolve the obstacles that come their way – like being hunted by the US military! There is genuine tension in the other two sub-plots as foreboding and menace emanates from the bad actors outlined above.

Y The Last Man S01E06 Review

Y The Last Man S01E06 probably needs to provide greater clarity in the various sub-plots to avoid meandering into a meaningless morass. Hopefully soon.
