Willow Season 1 Ep 1 – 2 are the initial chapters of the first season of an American fantasy adventure television series based on and serving as a sequel to the 1988 film of the same name. The original film was not a big success as evidenced by the fact that creator George Lucas never did anything with the ‘franchise’ again. The fact that a sequel TV series now exists is more a function of Disney+ looking for content to throw onto their streaming platform than anything else.

Willow Season 1 Ep 1 – 2 comes with the obligatory fantasy premise viz. An unlikely group of six heroes embark on a dangerous quest far beyond their home, where they must face their inner demons and come together to save their world. Additionally, this series is said to be possessed of a ‘modern sensibility’ presumably meaning ‘woke’. An incredible red flag that thankfully is somewhat not in evidence here so far.

So what do we have in Willow Season 1 Ep 1 – 2? A lesbian couple, dwarf community (Nelwyn), a prophecy of the One unfulfilled and evil denizens of a dark Lord (in this instance, the Crone) and assorted bad examples of male behaviour. For the latter, we have Prince Graydon (nerd) and Boorman (barbarian). Not a likeable character amongst this particular ‘fellowship’ as Willow himself is crabby, Princess Kit is an entitled asshole, Jade is a mindless automaton and Elora (the One) is a bit of a bimbo!

Now, we have never watched the original movie but these two chapters do at least try their best to fill in the gaps for the uninitiated. In any case, of course, the Willow film is streaming on Disney+! Not much to recommend these pointless sequel TV series with thus far. Will it get better?
