WANDAVISION EPISODE 9 (REVIEW)

WandaVision Episode 9 is the final instalment in this streaming superhero TV drama. Entitled “The Series Finale” (duh!), WandaVision Episode 9 – as the title suggests – concludes the narrative of Wanda Maximoff’s tale as she fully assumes the mantle of The Scarlet Witch. Although there was much online speculation concerning how the series would pan – including the much anticipated introduction of key MCU characters, fundamentally WandaVision operated along the same lines as a typical MCU solo movie.

S P O I L E R S

One of the main flaws associated with the MCU solo movies was that typically the antagonist would essentially be a character with the same powers as the hero. Thus, thematically the heroes would be battling a mirror image of themselves. For instance, Iron Man vs Ironmonger, Hulk vs Abomination, Black Panther vs Killmonger etc etc etc.

WandaVision Episode 9 does not deviate from this trope one bit. The villain of the piece is ultimately revealed to be Agatha Harkness, who is of course, a witch. Furthermore in this finale, we have two Visions fighting each other as well! Yikes, talk about flogging a dead horse.Presumably, this story device was utilised as a tool of familiarity for the audience. However, there was a sense of “been there, done that” at the end of the series – though to be fair the manner in which both were resolved was clever.

Unfortunately for all the internet theorists and rumourmongers out there, WandaVision Episode 9 would turn out to be a massive disappointment. No Reed Richards, no Doctor Stranger and even the faux Quicksilver was not the Quicksilver from the Fox X-Men universe but an actor named Ralph Bohner (seriously).

That all said, “The Series Finale” was a heartfelt conclusion to this welcome addition to the MCU canon. Two key outcomes for the continuing stories of course would be the evolution of Wanda/The Scarlet Witch into a being even more powerful that the Sorcerer Supreme and the reconstructed Vision regaining his memories from the Wanda-made one. And of course, check out the mid-credits and post-credits scene for teasers for future MCU storylines.
