The Wheel of Time S01E05 Review

The Wheel of Time S01E05 is the fifth episode of the first season of an American epic fantasy television drama series streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The series is based on Robert Jordan’s novel series of the same name and is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios. The series has already been renewed for a second season!

The Wheel of Time S01E05 Review

Entitled “Blood Calls Blood”, The Wheel of Time S01E05 takes time out after the traumatic events of last episode’s ending to reveal the impact of said denouement on the characters. In dealing with the Longain, the false dragon, and his army the Aes Sedai (essential an organisation of sorceresses, for want of a better term) have suffered losses in their ranks with Moiraine and Lan having to deal with the setback.

The Wheel of Time S01E05 Review

Elsewhere, Perrin and Egwene run into a familiar face – though not one they’d hope to see. Mat and Rand see strange ones in the city of Tar Valon and Nynaeve has to figure what to do with her new magic powers with the various factions of the Aes Sedai hoping to recruit her. There is sufficient tension provided especially with the dilemma faced by Perrin and Egwene.

The Wheel of Time S01E05 Review

With The Wheel of Time S01E05, there is enough familiarity with the characters for engagement to begin. The characterisation is strong – as expected – and there is mistrust and suspicion amongst the various interests represented by these characters. Though more has been revealed, the writers are still keeping the ulterior motives of the several characters quite close to the chest.

At the halfway point of the first season, The Wheel of Time S01E05 continues to provide justification for the existence of this adaptation. Hopefully, the plot will pick up pace in the second half, now that the world building has been given time.
