The Time Traveler's Wife Episode 6 Analysis

The Time Traveler’s Wife Episode 6 is the final instalment of a science-fiction romantic-drama television series written by Steven Moffat and based on the novel of the same name by Audrey Niffenegger. The novel was previously adapted as a film in 2009 and received mixed reviews.

The Time Traveler’s Wife Episode 6 is another excellent episode in the series. The series provides us with a pivotal plot point (i.e. the wedding of Clare and Henry) but with a significant twist, as expected. It makes perfect sense that such a stressful occasion would lead to 28 year-old Henry missing his own wedding (by time traveling) and appropriate that it is 36 year-old Henry (who spent all that time ‘grooming’ young Clare) should be the Henry that appears at the wedding.

Yet again, we get an instalment that is superbly written, as Moffat makes maximum use of the unique premise presented by this concept. In addition, Moffat begins to introduce more elements from the novel (and the film adaptation) principally in regards to the daughter of Clare and Henry – this issue forms another key plot point of this episode.

However, while we briefly glimpse 42 year-old Henry this time around, a couple of questions remain unanswered. For example, why is there an inordinate focus on the 28 and 36 year-old versions of Henry and why does Henry return to specific times and places in his past and future? What are the factors that influence Henry’s time travel destinations? Is there a method to this madness? We certainly hope the these plot issues will be addressed in the second season.

The Time Traveler’s Wife Episode 6 demonstrates once more why this series deserves to have a second season. Highly recommended!
