S P O I L E R S
Entitled “The Creation of a Thousand Forests”, The Peripheral Season 1 Ep 8 should be wrapping up storylines and generating anticipation for a potential second season. Instead, once more, the plots seem to go nowhere, extreme violence is thrown in for its own sake and key characters are never developed whatsoever.
The Peripheral Season 1 Ep 8 does at least give our main character Flynne a mini-quest (finally), although it’s an incomprehensible one and something we do not get to see resolved at the finale’s close! To cut a long story short, Lowbeer proposes an alliance with Flynne to defeat Cherise and the Research Institute (RI). The latter accelerates the Jackpot in Flynne’s stub to eliminate any possibility of Zubov acquiring the RI’s data library that is in her head.
Flynne proposes to create a new stub – a reboot, so to speak – in order to escape the destruction of the present stub and to hide from the RI. How that works is never quite explained but in any case, Lowbeer leads Flynne’s polt to a stub portal where after a needless fight sequence which our ‘Mary Sue’ wins easily, she activates the new stub.
But it seems something else needs to be done. Flynne convinces Conner to kill someone but the identity of that person is never revealed. But when that killing is executed, Flynne returns to the future with Lowbeer as she asks, “shall we get to work?” and the finale ends! Huh? What just happened? No idea! Not only that but does this mean that everything that transpired in the old stub in the previous episodes are not null and void? What a waste of time!!!
The Peripheral Season 1 Ep 8 demonstrates that the people behind this series have no fucking clue. What a disaster this has been. Ugh.
