The Old Man Episode 5 is either intriguing or ponderous one depending on one’s perspective. If one appreciates well written characterisations and expository dialogue, then you will absolutely love this episode! Essentially, aside from the flashbacks – which ironically do not bring that much to the table – the episode consists primarily of two key conversations.
READ OUR ANALYSES OF THE OLD MAN.
First, between Harper and Emily/Angela with all the cards on the table. Harper is aware of who Emily actually is – thus there is no longer a need to call her “Angela” – a tense conversation that centres on trust and betrayal between two persons whose relationship is on a knife’s edge. Much is revealed here as to the intentions of both – can either be taken at face value? So much push and pull between them. Brilliantly written and performed.
Second, between Chase and Zoe, again a tense and conflicted bargain has been struck with each beginning to appreciate the value of the other. For Zoe especially, her misadventures with Chase now becoming a new lease on her mundane life. Fundamental is the understand that both take a huge risk by trusting and relying on the other. Again, brilliantly written and performed. Kudos.
The Old Man Episode 5 is certainly one of the better spy action thrillers on streaming TV right now. Highly recommended.
Now streaming on FX.
