THE OFFER EPISODE 7 (ANALYSIS)

The Offer Episode 7 is the sixth part of a biographical drama miniseries about the development and production of Francis Ford Coppola’s landmark New York City gangster film The Godfather (1972) for Paramount Pictures. The miniseries is part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the classic film and is based on the experiences of producer Al Ruddy, played by Miles Teller.

Entitled “Mr. Producer”, The Offer Episode 7 is yet another strong instalment of this behind-the-scenes dramatisation. The focus is back on Ruddy after he is reinstated by Gulf+Western CEO Charlie Bluhdorn but of course, his difficulties have not disappeared. This time, Ruddy has to face the back-stabbing activities of Jack Ballard (Paramount VP) and Aram Avakian (film editor) who are angling to take charge of the film production by whispering in the ear of Bluhdorn.

In addition, The Offer Episode 7 displays Ruddy’s ability to negotiate between dissensions within the crew, even as he has to handle the expectations of top management. That all said, Ruddy’s relationship with mafia boss Joe Colombo does get closer but even that aspect will come into serious danger by the end of the episode. “You are a problem solver” Ruddy’s latest squeeze remarks after observing him on the shoot – which is of course, the entire point of this miniseries – to highlight and give credit to the film producer who indeed has to solve each and every problem that arises and as we have seen in this miniseries is multitude!

Obviously, for the sake of drama, the problems are exaggerated for maximum effect but the grain of truth is certainly evident and provides a deeper appreciation for the numerous men and woman who work tirelessly behind-the-scenes to produce the movies we love.
