Premise
Entitled “The Stanford Student”, The Morning Show Season 3 Ep 6 features a pivotal interview that complicates the Hyperion-UBA deal. Stella Bak debates whether to reveal her history with Paul Marks.
Good
Tension. That’s what the series has been ratcheting up in the last couple of episodes. Tension between characters and tension within characters. The constant uncertainty kept the engagement high overall. The focus mainly was on the Hyperion-UBA deal and Alex Levy’s insistence on a transparent interview with Marks, the Hyperion CEO. Also, Stella revealed the dark secret that she holds over Marks, which Alex addressed in the interview. Essentially, it seems Marks stole an idea from Stella who was a Hyperion intern at the time (hence, the title). Add to that the obvious sexual tension between Alex and Paul, which was consummated, tension between Bradley and Hal over the January 6 incident, which spilled into the possible rekindling of Brad’s relationship with Laura. So, a tense episode all told!
Bad
Now, the slight problem we had with all this was that ultimately, Stella’s issue did not seem to warrant the tension the episode created over it. Marks apologised for the issue – to be fair, he wasn’t even aware of Stella’s mental health problems – and seemed to have rewarded Stella as a form of payback, probably at the expense of Cory. Also, still not buying the Bradley-Laura love affair. But that’s okay.
Conclusion
The Morning Show Season 3 Ep 6 was a bit of a mixed bag for the reasons above. Perhaps it fell a little below the high bar it had set for itself this season. But still engaging viewing. Recommended.
