Ladies and gentlemen, hold onto your jetpacks and charge up your blasters, because The Mandalorian Season 3 Ep 2 has dropped and the popular series continues for another thrilling season! After two wildly successful seasons, the show that introduced us to the adorable and mysterious Baby Yoda (yes, we know it’s technically called Grogu now) is returning for more adventures in a galaxy far, far away.
S P O I L E R S
Entitled “The Mines of Mandalore”, The Mandalorian Season 3 Ep 2 comes out swinging after the pedestrian setup of the first episode. While it did appear that Din Djarin might have to take an entire season to get to Mandalore to achieve his quest, what we do get instead is Din (and Grogu) heading down to the planet in the second chapter!
Din and Grogu are attacked by creatures looking like Morlocks (from HG Wells’ Time Machine) – which we discover later are called “Alamites” – Din dispatches them but then is captured by a creepy cybernetic monster that will evoke General Grievous and the Thing movie. Grogu escapes to get assistance from Bo-Katan.
Bo-Katan and Grogu rescue Din but not before Bo-Katan demonstrates her prowess with the Dark Saber in a thrilling battle with that cyborg monster. Din still insists on washing himself in the living waters under the mines of Mandalore. Bo-Katan guides him accordingly, perhaps to disavow him from all the romantic notions he might harbour. There is a moment where it seems the two connect over their shared Mandalorian heritage.
Din eventually walks into the waters but then is pulled down by an unseen force. Once again, Bo-Katan has to save him but on her way up encounters a Mythosaur – thought to be extinct. The Mythosaur, of course, is the creature that symbolises Mandalore. At the end, that encounter has certainly affected Bo-Katan, is it a sign that will inspire her (and Din) to unite the Mandalorians to return to Mandalore? An exciting prospect! One of the best episodes of the series thus far.
… still there’s more …
