Ladies and gentlemen, hold onto your jetpacks and charge up your blasters, because The Mandalorian Season 3 Ep 1 has dropped and the popular series is back for another thrilling season! After two wildly successful seasons, the show that introduced us to the adorable and mysterious Baby Yoda (yes, we know it’s technically called Grogu now) is returning for more adventures in a galaxy far, far away.
S P O I L E R S
Entitled “The Apostate”, The Mandalorian Season 3 Ep 1 does not actually pick up from the end of Season 2 but the end of The Book of Boba Fett instead, where Grogu returned to Din Djarin after choosing the Mandalorian over Luke Skywalker! And so, this season pushes the reset button and gives Djarin a brand new quest.
That quest – as flimsy as it might sound – relates to Djarin being declared an apostate for previously removing his helmet and having to wash himself in the living waters of the mines of Mandalore. Thus, The Mandalorian Season 3 Ep 1 involves the story setting itself up for Djarin to achieve this objective. After helping his fellow Watch members kill a gigantic monster, he returns to Nevarro to rebuild the droid bounty hunter IG-11 to accompany him to Mandalore, which is now a desolate poisonous wasteland. He fail as he requires special parts to achieve the task.
On his way to Bo Katan’s castle in Kalevala, Djarin encounters Gorian Shand’s pirates and dispatches them with ease. There is quite a bit of planet-hopping in The Mandalorian Season 3 Ep 1, which should please the diehard fans. In any case, Bo Katan is depressed, having failed to recover the Dark Saber in the proper manner and has lost the support of the other Mandalorian clans. Thus, she refuses to aid Djarin in his cause!
Certainly, it appears that this Season 3 is going to be a hard slog for Djarin and Grogu to get to Mandalore with all the obstacles being thrown in their way. A good start, long may it continue!
