The Mandalorian S02E08 is the season 2 finale of this well-received Star Wars streaming TV drama series. It is no exaggeration to proclaim that success of The Mandalorian has ‘saved’ Star Wars fans and has redeemed the franchise in the eyes of many hardcore fans disillusioned with the way the sequel trilogy turned out.
Certainly, The Mandalorian S02E08 demonstrates why this series has captured the imagination of even the most casual of fans when the sequel trilogy failed abysmally. Showrunners Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have kept faith with the original vision of Star Wars creator George Lucas – from the originals to the prequels to The Clone Wars to even the Expanded Universe – unlike the inferior fan fiction of the sequel trilogies which came across as fake imitations.
Entitled “The Rescue”, the plot of The Mandalorian S02E08 is simple and stated in its title. Mando, with Boba Fett, Cara Dune and Fennic Shand, enlist the aid of Bo-Katan Kryze and Koska Reeves to rescue Grogu from the clutches of Moff Gideon. The main obstacle in their way is not the stormtroopers or even Moff Gideon but rather the platoon of deadly Dark Troopers that Gideon carries on board his imperial light cruiser.
The manner in which the season 2 finale resolves this dilemma is the ultimate fan service. Suffice to say that I do not want to spoil the denouement for you but it is done in a way that is logical and oh so satisfying! Fair to say that The Mandalorian S02E08 (and to a lesser extent, the introduction of Ahsoka Tano) has managed to erase the horrible memory of the sequel trilogy, once and for all.
Certainly, this special ending to The Mandalorian Season 2, sets up the future of Star Wars nicely, along with the slate of streaming TV series recently announced by Lucasfilm. May the Force be with you!
