The Mandalorian S02E07 turned out to be another half an hour episode. However, The Mandalorian S02E07 “The Believer” was a much stronger instalment of this Star Wars bounty hunter epic series as fans were given a deeper insight into the character of Migs Mayfield (Bill Burr) last seen in Season 1.
Last time out, Mando (Pedro Pascal) had lost Grogu to the imperial forces commanded by Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) and both Boba Fest (Teamura Morrison) and Fennac Shand (Ming-Na Wen) had pledged themselves to assist Mando in his quest to recover Grogu from the Empire.
However, before Mando could achieve this quest, he had to find out where Moff Gideon had taken Grogu to and thus, this mission was the central plot of The Mandalorian S02E07. Thus, Mando has to recruit the aid of New Republic Marshall Cara Dune (Gina Carano) in order to get to former imperial trooper Mayfeld now incarcerated in a New Republic prison.
Superficially, The Mandalorian S02E07 appeared to be as thinly plotted as too many episodes of The Mandalorian but at least this time, there was a stronger thematic resonance than a mere heist plot. Though in that respect, it was a classic Star Wars rebel plot – the stealing of key information from an imperial base – remember Rogue One? An entire movie premised on a line of the opening crawl of A New Hope. Meh.
There were a couple of twists and turns afforded to diehard Star Wars fans even in the short running time of the episode. Without spoiling your fun, let me just say that Mayfeld’s character is somewhat redeemed from what was revealed about him in Season 1. Not only that but we also got a special glimpse into Mando and his commitment to Grogu, the lengths he would go to rescue him. Powerful moments.
So it all boils down to the season 2 finale where Mando and company face off with Moff Gideon and his imperial forces. One to look forward to, finally!
… still there’s more …
