The Mandalorian S02E06 provided Star Wars fans a memorable moment with the proper return of fan-favourite Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison). Entitled “The Tragedy”, The Mandalorian S02E06 certainly telegraphed that the episode would be a difficult one for Mando (Pedro Pascal) as Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) set his plan in motion to capture Grogu.
Not much else actually happened in The Mandalorian S02E06 to be honest. There is a minor fracas between Boba Fett – aided by Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) thought to have been killed in S01E05 – and Mando, which they settle amicably rather quickly when Gideon’s stormtroopers arrive on the planet Tython.
The stormtroopers are no match for the collective might of the new allies but the Dark Troopers are a different proposition. By the end of the episode, Mando and his new allies have a new mission – to rescue Grogu from the clutches of Moff Gideon.
Much was made of which Jedi might be alerted to Grogu’s presence on the Seeing Stone but obviously that is an unresolved matter by the end of The Mandalorian S02E06. And that’s that actually as far as this episode is concerned.
Pretty parsimonious if you ask me. Directed by Robert Rodriguez, one might have expected more gritty action to sate Star Wars fans but it’s all rather mundane if you ask me. Which is the case often when stormtroopers are involved, they do not pose much threat to any fighters worth their salt. In that scenario, the conflict and drama is absent.
So while the appearance of Boba Fett was welcomed and the prospect of Fett teaming up with Mando is a mouth-watering one, The Mandalorian S02E06 was largely a disappointment. Which seems to be an easy assessment to make about many of these Season 2 episodes. Hopefully, more fan surprises await in the final two episodes of Season 2.
… still there’s more …
