The Man Who Fell To Earth Episode 8 Analysis

The Man Who Fell to Earth Episode 8 is the eighth instalment of an American science fiction television series created by Jenny Lumet and Alex Kurtzman. The series is based on the 1963 novel of the same name by Walter Tevis and previously made into a film in 1976 starring David Bowie. This television series is actually a continuation of the events depicted in the film, a sequel of sorts.

Entitled “The Pretty Things Are Going To Hell”, The Man Who Fell to Earth Episode 8 follows through on Faraday’s realisation in the previous instalment that Thomas Newton had been lying to him – his actual plan is to bring Antheans to Earth! That scheme would of course bring the forces of the CIA crashing down on Faraday and Justin Falls, once discovered. Thus, they decide to hide the quantum engine away from Spencer Clay and the CIA, to protect themselves.

The Man Who Fell to Earth Episode 8 depicts the violence that ensues from this decision and the rising tension that mounts from Clay hunting down Faraday and Falls to recover the engine core. Faraday having been shot in the previous encounter does not help matters as the duo seek refuge with Mary-Lou in the rehabilitation centre. Josiah Falls determines that Faraday requires a transfusion of his blood in order to be saved and a makeshift transfusion is conducted.

Of course, Clay is getting closer – supported by two mercenaries – and Mary-Lou and the brave ladies of the centre do what they can to slow them down. All seems for nought as the ladies are overpowered and Faraday and Justin are captured. How will this dire situation be resolved in Faraday’s favour in the two episodes that remain? Intriguing!

Now streaming on Showtime.
