When did alt-folk-rock singer-songwriter David Bazan (of Pedro the Lion fame) start writing synth-pop songs?
Based on listening to the title track and “Disappearing Ink”, this is a continuation of the brave new direction that Bazan pursued last time out in Blanco (2016) but still a much welcomed one.
It’s basically still the same intimate, melancholy and literate songwriting but wrapped in electronic sounds and arrangements.
Highly influenced by 80s synth-pop (think: Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode), this is minimalist electro-pop at its best and as odd as it may seemingly come across, it totally works!
Bazan’s 4th full-length studio album Care will be released world-wide on March 7, 2017.
