THE LAST OF US SEASON 1 EP 7: DÉJÀ VU

The Last of Us Season 1 Ep 7

The Last of Us Season 1 Ep 7 is the seventh chapter of the first season of an American post-apocalyptic zombie horror TV series, based on the best-selling video game of the same name. The series stars Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, as the duo make a dangerous trek across the dystopian American landscape seeking a cure against the fungal infection that runs through the veins of Ellie.

Plot

Entitled “Left Behind”, The Last of Us Season 1 Ep 7 recalls episode 3 where a flashback chapter depicts gay couple finding love and romance in a post-apocalyptic environment and similarly also feels disconnected from the events of the present. However, the difference this time is that this flashback involves Ellie directly as we see her relationship with best friend Riley, and the circumstances leading to Ellie getting bitten by a clicker.

Characters

The flashback in The Last of Us Season 1 Ep 7 is crucial as it provides the context for Ellie’s motivations and actions. Instead of leaving Joel behind and seeking Tommy back at Jackson, Ellie stays and does her best to provide Joel with medical attention. Obviously, Ellie losing Riley – partially shown in the flashback – drives her to save Joel and reveals the strength of their bond, which is at the core of the series.

Observations

The Last of Us Season 1 Ep 7 is a deep dive into Ellie’s past that seems to be a holding pattern once more but probably more than episode 3, necessary for the audience to get to know Ellie better and emotionally connect with her situation.
