The Expanse S05E07 continues the latest season of the critically acclaimed scifi streaming TV space opera drama. Entitled “Oyedeng”, The Expanse S05E07 is arguably the best episode of this stellar 5th season so far. This is probably because finally, the episode digs deep into the story behind Naomi Nagata’s history with Belter freedom fighter (or terrorist, take your pick) Marcos Inaros and their son Felip.
Thus, The Expanse S05E07 is laser-focused on Nagata as she reaches the end of her tether. Nagata had taken the risk of reaching out to her estranged son, Felip, as Inaros was carrying out his revolutionary activities and it had appeared to all intents and purposes that her plans had royally back-fired on her, and events had spiralled way out of her control.

Considering all the galactic-scale events that have been part of the narrative so far in this series, it is instructional that one of the most powerful scenes of The Expanse would be in Nagata’s heart-to-heart with Felip in his quarters. It was impossible not to be swept away by the emotional power of that scene as Nagata poured out her soul to her son, in a bid to save him.
It’s hard to imagine what depths Nagata has plumbed this season as she faces the ghosts of her past. Not only that but these past ‘sins’ now have a devastating impact on her and her loved ones in the present. This is writing of the highest order and par for the course for The Expanse. We have been waiting all season for Nagata’s character arc to pay off and it does in spades in this episode.
Which brings us to the tense, nail-biting ending of The Expanse S05E07. You will literally hold your breath as Nagata takes the ultimate gamble to try to save all that she cares for, at the risk of her own life. What drama! Can’t wait for the final three episodes!!
