S P O I L E R S

Premise
Entitled “Stormy Weather”, The Changeling Part 7 focuses entirely on Lillian as she reckons with a dark night from her past and records a message for her son, Apollo.

Bad
We hated this episode. If we thought last week was poor in the sense that it broke momentum and was free of tension, The Changeling Part 7 was infinitely worse. None of the key protagonists appear in this chapter. It’s all about Lillian in a hotel room. It’s dreamlike quality immediately takes us out of the story – what’s the point? Are you telling a story or preaching to us about social justice issues regarding African-Americans and gays? Disappointment after disappointment with modern TV series which resist following the fundamental rules of story. If there is no tension, there is no engagement whatsoever!

Good
The only sliver of promise we get – and we are not even sure it qualifies – is that it provides a bit of a context in relation to the curse that has befallen Apollo and Emma in relation to baby Brian. While previously it was hinted that it was the fault of the witch Emma encountered in the Amazon jungle, this makes it abundantly clear is that it is divine punishment visited about Apollo for the sins of his mother, Lillian, in the murder of his father Brian. Fair enough but did we need this meandering stream-of-consciousness bullshit to get to that plot point? Nope.

Conclusion
Not much hope that we will get a satisfactory ending from The Changeling now. The writing has declined sharply. Sigh.
