Entitled “Here Comes a Candle to Light You to Bed”, The Boys Season 3 Episode 7 is the penultimate instalment of Season 3 and does an excellent job in setting up the season finale. Obviously, this episode has a different pace after the stunning events of “Herogasm” in the last episode but it spends the ‘quieter’ moments well by providing us story exposition and character development.

The Boys Season 3 Episode 7 brings Hughie back to reality, off his supes trip and recognising that working side-by-side with the deranged Soldier Boy is a terrible idea. Butcher goes on his own trip down memory lane, except it’s a nightmare and we understand Billy’s guilt concerning the demise of his beloved younger brother, Lenny.

The leading women are once again presented as the sane individuals as Starlight and the Female make the hard decisions to protect the men in their lives. Kimiko realises that she needs Compound V and her powers in order to keep Frenchie safe. There is a strong sense of family in The Boys camp which is contrasted by the dysfunction within the Vought camp – from Homelander and CEO Ashley downwards.
But the best part of this penultimate episode is saved for the end, where Soldier Boy delivers a startling revelation to Homelander. How will affect the ultimate smackdown in the finale?
